Presbyterian Faith
The Presbyterian Churches are one of the most significant supporters of the Scouting movement in America with nearly 4,000 Scouting units and nearly 150,000 Scouting members. The Presbyterian commitment to Scouting is also evident in the existence of the National Association of Presbyterian Scouters (NAPS) and welcomes all Presbyterian and Reformed Scouters. This organization is endorsed by the Presbyterian Church (USA), the largest of the six Presbyterian denominations that participate in Scouting and receives limited administrative support from this denomination of over 2½ million members. Scouting is also used by the Presbyterian Church in America, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, and the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America.
Southern New Jersey Council is located wholly within the bounds of the West Jersey Presbytery in the Synod of the Northeast in the PC(USA). As a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, I know that the other denominations welcome the Scouting programs, though their presbyteries are not as closely aligned with the boundaries of our Council as is the case with the PC(USA). Scouting has been an integral part of the programs of our local churches and whether or not an individual church charters a Scout unit, Presbyterian leadership has been integral in the success of Scouting throughout our region. If you are Presbyterian and a Scouting Leader, please call me about membership in NAPS or to get information on Presbyterian Scouting in your church.
